PASSPORT AND DRIVER'S LICENSE:
Citizens of other countries must have a valid passport to travel to Sicily. If you plan on renting a car, you to must get an International driver’s permit before your trip. If you are 18 years or older and a legal resident of the United States you can acquire your International driver’s permit through AAA.

CURRENCY:
The currency in Sicily is the euro (EUR,€). Most major credit cards are accepted in stores, restaurants and hotels in Sicily. Always inform your bank or credit card carrier of your travel plans. Also check to see if you have a bank that charges foreign transaction fees and what your daily withdrawal limit is for using your ATM/Debit card outside the US. You can exchange money in exchange offices, post offices and banks. Exchange fees/commission can vary greatly and lines at the post office are very long. We recommend you change a sufficient amount of money BEFORE your trip.

LANGUAGE:
Italian is the national language, but natives of Sicily speak In Sicilian dialect. English is spoken in most tourist and with younger Sicilians due to modern schools teaching english to students. Be advised, it will will be difficult to speak to the older residents or people in small villages.

SAFETY:
Traveling in Sicily is very safe. Petty crime such as pick-pocketing and purse snatching occur .Beware of your belongings when you are in locations with large crowds of people, for example, while using public transportation.

WEATHER:
Sicily has incredible climate throughout the year and even during winter. April and May are best months for hiking and visiting cities. In the summer Catania is one of the hottest areas of the island. In July and August temperatures can reach up it 91 °F. In October, the temperatures are mild but it can be rainy and windy. The best time to visit Sicily for a beach vacation is June to August. The sea is warm enough for swimming July to September.

Tipping is greatly appreciated, but not expected, and you should only do so if you feel you are getting exceptionally good service.
